This translation report is based on an intercultural communication text “Black and White Cultural Styles in Pluralistic Perspective,” by Thomas Kochman. With the development of cross-culture communication between various ethnic groups, the translation of selected article is propitious to the understanding of Black and White cultures and contains certain translation values. In the process of translation,culture-loaded words have become a significant problem to the translator. Therefore, the translator takes communicative translation theory as guidance, discussing the translation methods of culture-loaded words with examples in detail.Communicative translation theory attaches great importance of the transmission of information and the information effect, encouraging the translator to focus on readers and uses appropriate translation methods to convey messages as much as possible to achieve communicative purposes. In the end,the translator summarizes five suitable translation methods including literal translation, literal translation with notes, free translation, extension, and replacement. The general application of each method is discussed in this report as well.Through the study of culture-loaded words, the translator hopes to provide some references to other translators who encounter the same translation difficulties.
