Meme Variant Generation Of Subtitles For Special Effect In Variety Shows

Memetics is a new theory that explains the evolutionary laws of culture based on the Evolution Theory of Darwinian.As the subject of memetics,memes are the basic units of cultural transmission which include various forms: ideas,thoughts,languages,images,and musics,etc.Memetics is employed in this thesis to deeply analyze the generation forms and generation causes of meme variants of subtitles for special effect in variety shows,the corpus are adopted from the following sources: Running Man Ⅴ of ZJTV(Zhejiang Satelite TV)and King Cross Ⅱ of BTV(Beijing TV)during April to July of 2017 which ranked No.1 in www.tvtv.hk/ of simultaneous night-period TV programs on Saturday and Sunday.Also the study classifies subtitles for special effect in variety shows into three major categories in this study,namely,descriptive,suggestive and echoic subtitles for special effects,summarizes the instantaneity,colloquialism,popularity,culture,and comprehensiveness features,and generalizes the excavation,rendering,complement,and modification functions.From the perspective of memetics,the generation forms of meme variants of subtitles for special effect in variety shows are in three ways: phonetic variation,lexical variation,and syntactic variation,which includes: genotypic and phenotypic variations,variations in word form and word sense,and variations in word order and rhetoric.Based on this,the generation causes of meme variants of subtitles for special effect are analyzed in this thesis: the implicit cause of the subjective psychology of seeking novelty,psychology of seeking difference,psychology of participation and psychology of speculation;and the explicit needs of enhancement of visual effects and humorous effects.It’s found in the thesis that meme variants of subtitles for special effect in variety shows vary in form,including various language forms,images,symbols or mixed uses of forms.Meanwhile,the successful generation of meme variants of subtitles for special effect in variety shows depend on the selection of success language memes.In addition,success meme variants of subtitles for special effect have the same three characteristics of longevity,fecundity,and copying-fidelity as successful subtitles for special effect memes.From the theoretical point of view,this study can not only enrich the research field of memetics but also provide a wider applicability for its theoretical research.And in the application level,the analysis of meme variants of subtitles for special effect in variety show is a better way to interpret the forms and reasons why subtitles for special effect are welcomed,and presents new ideas for avoiding shortcomings in the production of subtitles for special effects in variety shows.
