This is a report of a simulated English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting of the keynote speech at Coetzee Study and Postcolonial Literature Research Conference in Wuhan.Giving simultaneous interpretation of English to Chinese for the international conferences is of great significance for improving the organization level of international conferences and strengthening academic exchanges and understanding among scholars attending the conference. As the most important forum for Coetzee Study and Postcolonial Literature, this conference has high degree of specialization. It is highly professional and difficult to interpret in practice. As the speaker pays attention to the expression of meaning, the interpreter needs to clarify the internal logic of the discourse quickly and combine the preparation work completed by the interpreter,so as to ensure the quality of interpretation.More importantly, the interpreter hopes to take this opportunity to find out the problems, make improvements and study the strategies and methods. The source language is a sixty-seven-minute speech by 3 speakers in the conference. The main problems encountered by the interpreter during the practice can be classified into three categories, namely how to interpret a lot of long difficult sentences, listening problem caused by speakers’ speaking speed, accent and technical information.Based on the Efforts Model, the interpreter follows the principle of syntactic linearity and uses following strategies and methods, including anticipation, omission, explaining to solve the problems during the interpreting.Evaluation and conclusion are made after the interpreting practice. The interpreter hopes that this interpreting report could provide guidance to the work of himself and other interpreters and interpreting learners.
