| Global megatrends, such as automation, digitalization, the green transition and population aging, are bringing about structural changes in labor markets around the world;plagued by the COVID-19 crisis, the world is now fraught with social-economic contradictions, having an tremendous impact on skills demand and supply.Vocational education and training(VET)can play a key role in responding to changing skill needs by equipping young people and adults with the right skills to fit the urgent need of labor markets. Therefore, the interpreter conducted a simulated English-Chinese Simultaneous interpreting of a Webinar titled “Teachers and Leaders in Vocational Education and Training(VET)” to explicate on the application of Efforts Model in simultaneous interpreting. In this report, challenges are divided into three major categories according to the three modules in simultaneous interpreting, namely listening and analysis,short-term memory and speech production, plus one more key point, coordination. The challenges appearing in the task are like follows: high speech delivery and high spontaneity of the speakers, high information density and speaker’s redundancy in the discourse, and unfamiliar terms, etc. In response to the above difficulties, the interpreter takes syntactic linearity and appropriate adjustment as the main principles, and resorts to more detailed coping tactics to deal with specific problems, such as fuzzy interpreting, summarizing, segmentation, etc.By adopting feasible principles and coping tactics, the interpreter can save the mental energy and circumvent the imbalanced effort allocation in various phases, ensuring quality of the rendition. After the interpreting practice, the interpreter made assessment and conclusion. The interpreter expects that this report can serve as a resource for future interpreting learning,as well as bring benefit to the researches on vocational education and training at home. |
