With the acceleration of globalization, interpreters, who work to build bridge among cultures, are more and more required for occasions like economic and trade forums and large-scale business meetings.Speeches on those occasions often involve a large number of figures. However, owing to its high density, low redundancy and high unpredictability of information, figure interpretation has always been a challenge to interpreters.Using the method of experiments and interviews, this thesis aims to summarize the characteristics of interpreter's performance in figure interpreting in simulated C-E interpretation. The most common mistakes and their causes are discussed in this part.Besides, under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model, this paper studies how to allocate efforts in a more reasonable way for interpreters to improve their performances in interpreting figures.Strategies for dealing with different type of figures are proposed.Through the analysis of experiments. This study finds that omission is the most common type of mistake made in interpreting figures.Based on the interviews, the study concludes that there are mainly four causes of mistakes in interpreting figures, including problems in listening and analysis,note-taking,production and short-term memory caused by inappropriate allocation of efforts and other psychological factors. At the end, from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model, this study proposes strategies for different types of mistakes, including strategies before and during interpretation. The pre-interpretation strategies are mainly composed of specialized training and preparation of related background knowledge;the strategies in interpretation includes taking complete notes in the process of listening and comprehension and approximate interpretation. This research is expected to provide a reference for professional interpreters and interpreting learners.
