In 2018,the demographic statistics showed that the population aged 60 and over was 249.49 million, accounting for 17.9% of the total population. With the coming of the age, aging has become a trend in the future. What should not be neglected is that the following problems are gradually highlighted, the Party and the state pay great attention to and attach great importance to the issue of aging. It can be seen that the elderly group deserves attention. How to create a good living environment for the elderly and meet their expectations and needs for a better life,so that their lives are healthy, happy and spiritual enrichment is worth studying. Therefore,it is an important research content to explore the needs of the elderly for a better life.At the same time,it can also point out the direction for the Party and the state to formulate policies related to the elderly,it provides some reference suggestions for solving a series of problems brought about by the aging society. Therefore, this study has theoretical and practical significance. The report of the Nineteenth National Congress pointed out that "the main contradiction in our society has been transformed into the contradiction between the people's growing need for a better life and the unbalanced and inadequate development".The satisfaction of the need for a better life can be realized under certain circumstances.Sibin(2017)pointed out that "the need for a better life" is open and more developmental. In this study, the elderly aged over 60 years old in urban/rural areas(mainly urban elderly,a small number of old people who migrated to urban areas with rural household registration)were investigated.Firstly, through interviews with the elderly, based on the results of interviews, theoretical assumptions were put forward. On the basis of hypothesis, the questionnaire dimension was initially set up to carry out the questionnaire survey, and the structure of the elderly's need for a better life was established, and the questionnaire for the elderly's a better life was compiled. The reliability and validity were verified. The first one is an interview study on the needs of the elderly for a better life.Through this study,we found that the elderly generally scored higher on the status quo of life.We explored the factors that make the elderly feel good and bad about life, how to treat the good life, and what "needs" are necessary for them to live a happy and beautiful life. The interviews also asked the elderly about their satisfaction with the actions of the government and the community and their suggestions for improvement. From the interview results,we can see that the needs of the elderly for a better life are basically consistent with the original assumptions. The second is the study of questionnaire compilation.Which is based on the summary of the interview results of the elderly between 60 to 80,a questionnaire was compiled to meet the needs of the elderly in China. It takes the elderly in Nanchang and Neijiang as the research objects. The questionnaire has 34 questions and establishes six dimensions.Specifically,it includes the elderly's subjective well-being,social needs, recreational needs,self-realization value needs, community support system needs and family children's accompanying needs. Each dimension has six or five questions, using the Likert 5-point scoring method.Through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability and validity test,it is found that the results of factor analysis are basically consistent with the assumption. It shows that the questionnaire has a good structure and good stability. The Cronbach reliability index is above 0.8,and all indicators meet the requirements of surveying. It is a reliable measuring tool.Whlie the small sample size and the limitation of sampling area, the practicability and generalization of the research results are worth discussing.Further research is needed to explore the needs of the elderly for a better life in the future.Especially,it is necessary to carry out interviews and questionnaires for the elderly in different areas in order to have a deeper understanding of the need for a better life for the elderly, and to provide relevant basis for the formulation of policies for the elderly.
