A Study Of Big Data Algorithm Ethics

Together with Big Data,the age of algorithm comes,and has been influencing human life all along.More and more moral and ethical issues relevant to algorithms start to attract people’s attention,but the corresponding ethical research falls far behind algorithm research.There are new algorithms coming up every day,but when facing the new ethical problems regarding algorithms,we are still clueless.The concept of Big Data,Algorithm,and Ethics of Algorithms are introduced at the very beginning.Based on the background of Big Data,the connection between Big Data and Algorithm is discussed,and by disproving technological neutrality in algorithms,it leads to the topic of the current study,namely the Ethics of Algorithms.By stating the fact that algorithms are helping people with decision making,which has been the responsibility of human only,the ethical object then shifts to the combination of human and algorithms.It starts with the typical ethical problems in modern algorithm community,including manipulation,data bias,and violation of privacy.This refers to the time background and calls for attention on the same time.Several possible reasons have been summarized.Information barrier for one make it opaque for all participating party to make decision;on the other hand,pre-assumption and decision error,is the internal reason,while conventional ethical restriction fails.Finally,the current strategies are listed,and the basic values of algorithms are proposed as the baseline for applications consideringexamples in the literature.With the design stages,safety and prospective,should be focused,while for applications stage,respectful,beneficial,sustainable,and equal cannot be left alone.How additional governances come play the corresponding roles is also discussed.The advantages and disadvantages of the existing governance mechanisms,including market mechanism,regulations,and government controls,should shed lights on the future governance on the ethic of algorithms.
