Report On Omega T Technical Writing Project Management

As the translation industry has been transforming into language service industry,translating alone cannot satisfy industrial demands any more.Instead,translating in the form of projects with collaborative translators has been an irresistible trend.Therefore,scientific project management is the key to achieving the ultimate project goals.The report is based on the author's project management in the OmegaT technical writing project.In the process of project implementation,the author consulted relevant literature and professionals.In this project,the author was responsible for project planning,project controlling,and project summarizing.In addition,the author participated in documentation development and offered trainings on computer aided translation(CAT)tools.The report records the preparation and implementation of the project in detail,and describes the process-oriented management model in technical writing projects.The project implementation includes requirement analysis,framework design,authoring,translation,quality control,and publication.Through analyzing the whole process,the report explores problems in task allocating,team building,process controlling,etc.from the perspectives of the project manager's functions including planning,organizing,leading and controlling,aiming to contribute to process optimization and quality assurance.In the end,the report summarizes the author's reflections on the differences between translation and technical writing project management and inspirations on career planning.There have been increasing case studies on translation and localization project management.However,due to the lagging development of technical writing in China,few technical writing project cases can be seen in relevant books.It is hoped that the report can enrich the project management case studies of the technical writing industry and offer reference for future similar projects.It is also expected that thereport can provide help for students who are determined to step into the technical writing industry and become project managers.
