The improvement of English reading ability plays an important role in the enhancement of senior high school students' comprehensive ability in English.However,in traditional classes,teachers only pay their attention to the explanation of language points and ignore the teaching of individual students,which will hinder the development of students' English.How to enhance senior high school English reading teaching efficiency in order to satisfy high school students' needs is a difficult problem.With the enforcement of the New Curriculum Standards for English(2003)and the development of new educational technology,the flipped classroom has come into the daily teaching life.Present work attempts to design a reading class using the flipped classroom method to try to address the following questions: How can the flipped classroom be appropriately applied in the reading class in Senior High School in China? Five sub questions are focused upon: What roles can the teacher play? What resources are available? What help should be provided in before-class reading? What learning activities can be organized in class? What effect can be gained after class?A framework of reading teaching is designed using the flipped classroom.First of all,the nature of reading and the development of reading abilities have been analyzed based on the existing literature review.Then,theories of the flipped classroom have been reviewed and the framework of the flipped classroom teaching(Figure 3)has been formulated based on the principles of the flipped classroom.Finally,a sample lesson was designing by taking into consideration of the heads of senior one student in Xuzhou No.3 middle school.Therefore,the teaching effects will be analyzed by pre-test and post-test,the questionnaire survey,and interview.This thesis has the following main conclusions.The flipped classroom can be appropriately applied in the reading class in Senior High School in China.Reading teaching design based on the flipped classroom changes the teacher's role.Many resources are available.Various help can be provided in before-class reading.A lot of learning activities can be organized in class.The use of the flipped classroom with good effect increases students' involvement in class and adds students' interactive learning time.The innovation of this thesis in detail discusses the design process of English reading teaching under the flipped classroom and also formulates a framework of teaching design.
