The problem of nationalization of Chinese drama has a long history, and its fame is three-fold but not final. The persistent weakness of theory makes the topic fall into an awkward situation of sitting on the cold bench and being marginalized. The process of nationalization of Chinese drama is a continuous development process of combining the development of drama literature and stage art with the goal.In specific historical periods, different connotations of the times should be given. In the period of drama transformation in the 1990 s,nationalization embodies the characteristics of pluralism. In the process of nationalization from unconscious to conscious exploration, the nationalization of Chinese drama has always been faced with the identity crisis from the creative subject and the folk identity crisis from the appreciation subject. The study of the nationalization of Chinese drama has been blocked from the beginning of 1990 s.In the face of the drama ecology in the new era and even in the new century, the theory of the nationalization of Chinese drama has been shaken or even stopped. The theatre theorists are also confused about the direction of the development of Chinese drama. This anxiety and confusion mistakenly dubbed the 1990 s Chinese drama "dull","mediocre" and "dark".Although the process of nationalization of Chinese drama in the 1990 s has its predicament,it still has great artistic gains.Specifically,it realizes the realistic turn of content. It attaches great importance to the exploration of personal life and individual life, makes good use of new subjects to respond to the current situation quickly, and shows the trend of positive drama shifting to comedy in genre. At the same time, the diversified exploration of stage technology, stage form and the relationship between performances are fully demonstrated. We should also see that the nationalization of drama is experiencing the process of homogenization and dissolution of exploration, such as the coincidence of theme and plot, the universal reference of artistic techniques, the double dissolution brought by the impact of commercial culture and the weakening of literary nature. In a sense, the nationalization of drama in the 1990 s retains the continuation of dramatic surge in the 1970 s and 1980 s,and is also constrained by the inevitable convergence of many factors. The vigorous development of thematic drama, commercial drama and avant-garde drama is not worthless either. It is a comprehensive development of the trend of nationalization and diversification of Chinese drama. It actively and passively experiences the confluence with national ideology, urgently seeks reasonable commercial grammar and norms, and also tries to explore the possibility of popularization of drama.
