Language is an important tool not only for communication but also for learning foreign culture.Over the past two decades,there has been an increasing interest in defining the role and place of translation in foreign language education.The MLA Ad Hoc Committee on Foreign Languages recommends that translation should be advocated as a tool in language learning because traditional pedagogic approaches fail to meet demand of language learners.Therefore,Translation and Language Education: Pedagogic approaches explored [sic] is selected to be the translation task according to my supervisor's suggestion and personal choice.The content of the book is novel and unique.Translation-based pedagogy is put forward which sets up a new bridge between translation and language education.Meanwhile,theory and practice merge seamlessly as the book illustrates language teaching approaches,translation theories and teaching cases.This translation task involves Chapter One and the First Section of Chapter Two.Chapter One provides a historical overview of nine pedagogical approaches such as the Grammar-Translation Method,the Oral Method and the Audiolingual Method etc.Chapter Two focuses mainly on the revival of translation in language teaching.The First Section analyses theoretical foundation of translation-based pedagogy.The report is organized into five parts.Under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory,this source text belongs to informative and expressive text.With the help of semantic translation and communicative translation methods,translation techniques like addition,word meaning extension and division etc.have been used to deal with problems such as translation of word meaning and complex sentences etc.at lexical level,syntactical level and textual level.The revival of translation as a means of learning and teaching a foreign language is occurring at both undergraduate and graduate levels in universities.Translation and Language Education: Pedagogic approaches explored [sic] develops an interdisciplinary theoretical framework,enriches the main achievements of educational translation and considers avenues for further development in this burgeoning area of scholarly enquiry.This book is vital reading for translators,language learners and teachers.
