| With the acceleration of globalization and economic integration,the demand for language service is growing rapidly.Besides,customers put forward more stringent requirements on translation quality.Translation quality suffers when inconsistent translation style emerges,which may further undermine the internationalization of customer enterprises.The application of translation style guides is an effective way of ensuring consistent translation style.The author found that domestic researchers conduct few studies about translation style guides.Moreover,there is even no research on the application of translation style guides in China's language service providers.Therefore,the author collected and analyzed pertinent literature,identified survey questions and selected 200 China's language service providers as the survey sample.The majority of the respondents are members of the Translators Association of China(TAC).Furthermore,the author designed and circulated the online questionnaire,collected the questionnaire data from these providers,and analyzed and concluded the current situation of the application of translation style guides.Through the survey,the information about the current situation of application of translation style guides in China's language service enterprises was obtained: the main sources and components of these guides,driving forces of updating,individuals who engage in writing,implementation methods,problems in using translation style guides,etc.The author concludes that China's language service providers fail to devote adequate attention to translation style guides,which is influenced by their sizes,sources of customers,main types of services,behavior of translators and other factors.After analyzing the data,the author gives advice on improving the quality of translation style guides and promoting the application of these guides.Hopefully,this survey would benefit further study of the translation style guides. |
