Because of the preciseness and professionalism of legal language,it is undoubtedly a great challenge for interpreters to grasp the words accurately in a limited time and to ensure the quality of the output of the target language. Therefore, this report analyzes the consecutive interpreting practice of a legal lecture entitled Justifiable Defense and Victim's Self-trapping Risk to summarize the interpreting skills and strategies of Chinese-English consecutive interpreting in terms of legal issues.Based on adaptation theory, this report analyzes the main difficulties encountered by the author in the process of this task from the four dimensions of contextual adaptation, structural adaptation, dynamic adaptation, and conscious adaptation and puts forward the corresponding solutions under the guidance of the theory.Through the analysis, the author finds that the following two challenges have been encountered in the interpreting process.First, the author is not familiar with the legal language;second, the author failed to respond flexibly when the speaker talked randomly and spoke in a fast speed.Through literature reading and summing up her own experience in this practice, the author believes that in legal interpretation, five interpreting strategies, including literal translation, free translation, addition, omission, and sentence reconstruction, can be adopted to achieve contextual adaptation, structural adaptation and conscious adaptation,so as to achieve dynamic adaptation under the guidance of adaptation theory, which effectively solves the two challenges mentioned above. The author hopes that this practice report can help readers better understand the operability of adaptation theory in the field of legal interpretation and expects to provide some reference forthe future study in this regard.
