Study On The Education Of Santai County During The Anti-japanese War(1938-1945)

Since the beginning of the Republic of China,the new-style education in Santai County had gradually developed;however,the progress was slow due to the warlords' confrontation in Sichuan province.After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan in an all-round way,in order to avoid the sabotage of Japanese army,colleges and universities in the occupied areas gradually moved to inland areas such as Sichuan and the National Government moved to Chongqing,leading to the increasing population and institutions in Sichuan.In addition,the National Government gave full political support.Therefore,education in Sichuan in this period saw a rapid development.Education in Santai County also reached the golden time of development,and all kinds of education made considerable progress.With the rapid development of primary education,the number of primary schools,teachers and students increased year by year.Secondary education became more and more complete,which not only referred to the growth in school number,but also meant that secondary education initially possessed three types,including secondary schools,secondary normal schools and secondary vocational schools.Higher education achieved a leap from scratch.Social education was more diverse in form than before,and its content tend to be more richer.The active participation of teachers and students had greatly increased the number of educated people.In this way,a relatively complete education system,which included primary education,secondary education,higher education and social education,was initially established in Santai County.The reason why Santai County's education can achieve such success in wartime can be attributed to three factors: the migration of Northeastern University,the wide support of the people in Santai County,and the educational policies issued by the National Government and Sichuan Provincial Government in wartime.At the same time,with the vigorous development of Santai County' education there were also many problems such as the lack of fixed places to work and teach,the shortage of teaching aids,the broken and narrow classrooms which even facing the danger of collapse.Some teachers were irresponsible,perfunctorily teaching,and even embezzled public funds.Their quality was different.Besides,teachers' lives could not be guaranteed with low salaries.Both teachers and students led a hard life.All of these questions had greatly affected the development of education in Santai County.
