During the course of language learning, information input plays an indispensable role, while reading is one of the most effective ways of that.As a result, cultivating and enhancing students' reading ability should be the focal point.Reading can be divided into in-class reading and extracurricular reading and the latter is the complement and extension of the former. In this sense, only in-class reading is not enough to enhance the students' reading ability and literacy while extracurricular reading can make up for the deficiency of it.The study is on English extracurricular reading in high school based on Krashen's SLA Theory by taking three high schools as examples. In the thesis, through questionnaires, interviews and tests,a conduct has been made to find out the current problems in English extracurricular reading and analyze the possible causes behind it.And then, based on the problems found and the related research at home and abroad, the thesis conducts its research from the following three aspects: the choice of reading materials in extracurricular reading, students' autonomous reading and the training for students' reading skills. It aims at solving the problems in English extracurricular reading in high schools so as to improve their reading ability. It is hoped that the research results will be widely put into use in more high schools and provide references and guidance for the teaching of English extracurricular reading in senior high schools.
