A Study Of The Relationship Among Father Presence,Celebrity Worship And Ego Identity

The purposes of this research are revise the Idol Worship Reason Questionnaire,and explore the inherent relationship of father presence,idol worship reason and ego identity crisis.214 universities and 689 adolescents from middle school were administered the Idol Worship Reason Questionnaire to examine the reliability and validity.And then conveniently selected 334 students in a Middle School were measured using the Father Presence Scale,Idol Worship Reason Questionnaire and Adolescence Ego Identity Crisis Scale(AEICS).The final scale consists of four parts,a total of 24 items.The first part is to measure whether the researcher has idols;the second part is to measure their idol worship degree;the third part is to measure the idol worship reason;the fourth part is a reconfirmation of the results of the third part of the measurement.There are 18 projects on idolatry reasons,three sub-scales(moral quality,shape appeal and influence).The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the final scale was 0.895,three sub-scales ranged from 0.807 to 0.890.And the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the date fit the entire model.So the Idol Worship Reason Questionnaire has good reliability and validity.The study of the relationship among father presence,idolatry and self-identity shows the level of father presence and celebrity worship were higher among teenagers,meanwhile their ego identity crisis was lower.There were significant differences in the dimension of the relationship of father and grandfather and father influence between males and females,with the boys get higher scores than girls.The father presence in the demographic variables exist notable grade differences,with the first grade is higher than the high grade.And there were significant differences in father presence and its dimensions in the frequency of communication with father.The idolatry of middle school students shows significant gender differences in the shape attractive dimension,which is shown by the fact that girls significantly higher than boys.The dimension of moral character have notable differences in the dimensions of the communication frequency with father.The self-identity crisis of middle school students is significantly different in grades,especially for students in the first grade who score lower than those in the first grade.Father presence is positively correlated with celebrity worship(Moral Character)among younger students.Idolatry(Moral Character)and self-identity crisis,father presence and self-identity crisis are significantly negative correlation.And idolatry(Moral Character)of middle school students played a partial intermediary role between father presence and ego identity crisis.Based on the above results,we can draw the following conclusions:(1)The level of father presence and celebrity worship were higher among teenagers,meanwhile their ego identity crisis was lower.(2)Father presence is positively correlated with celebrity worship(Moral Character)among younger students.Idolatry(Moral Character)and self-identity crisis,father presence and self-identity crisis are significantly negative correlation;(3)Idolatry(Moral Character)of middle school students played a partial intermediary role between father presence and ego identity crisis.
