A Report On The C-E Translation Of DADT Co.,Ltd Quality Manual

As the economic globalization advances,technology exchanges and cooperation between countries have become increasingly closer.The demand for various document translations between multinational corporations has also increased sharply,such as quality manuals,contracts,and specifications,of which quality manual is the main approach for Chinese corporations and foreign companies to understand each other.Thus,its translation quality has a direct effect on a company’s international image.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the translation of quality manual text.This report is based on the translation practice of Dongguan Anci Detection Technology Co.,Ltd Quality Manual,which is provided by Dongguan Anci Detection Technology Co.,Ltd,aiming to help foreign users to understand its company and products,strengthen its international reputation and expand its foreign markets.The author was commissioned by the company to translate the quality manual and was responsible for the last part of the manual,26,634 words in total.At the beginning of the project,the author made a preparation for the translation work,including the analysis of texts,the search for materials such as terminologies and parallel texts.The original text is a rigorous,logical informative text.Based on this,the author selected Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,which focuses on re-expressing the information of source texts,as the guiding theory of this translation practice.In the process of translation,the author summarized the difficulties encountered in the translation from three levels: lexical,syntactical and discourse,and solved them one by one in accordance with the theory.At the lexical level,the author translated the massive terminologies by semantic selection and coped the problem of the un-equivalence of the parts of speech between Chinese and English by conversion of part of speech;at the syntactical level,the author applied splitting and restructuring and conversion of sentence pattern to improve the translation of long sentences and sentences with no subject;at the discourse level,the author added conjunctions in English translation text to translate the inherent implicit logic of Chinese paragraphs,increasing the logical coherence of translation text.The substitution method was used to make English translation text more concise,avoidingword repetition.Although the completion of this translation project was highly recognized by the client,there were still some problems in the translation process.The author summarized the problems encountered in this translation project,evaluating the translation text and collecting feedback from the client,then proposing some positive solutions and suggestions,hoping this translation experience can be of great help for the translators who will engage in similar translation projects of quality manual.
