Since the Peony Pavilion published,it has became an immortal piece of kunqu opera.Its resplendent style of writing and delicate feelings caused generations of readers to sigh.Even Tang Xianzu has been called“Oriental Shakespeare”.This paper focuses on the translated text and stage performance of the overseas dissemination of the Peony Pavilion,and on the basis of detailed analysis of text cases,further explores the resistance encountered by the overseas dissemination of the Peony Pavilion,the way to resolve the resistance and the status quo of research results.In an effort to make the study of the Peony Pavilion more profound thinking.The introduction introduces the research status of the Peony Pavilion at domestic and abroad.The translation of the text in Britain and the United States,and the stage performance.The first chapter analysis in British and American culture system under the condition of text translation and communication.The contrast analysis of the text translation,including translation of Cyril Birch is the most outstanding,its translation has gone classic,scholars and ordinary readers become the preferred translation.Translation of Birch's success could be a reference to other classical text translation in China.The second chapter takes the studies of Japan and the South Korean peninsula as the entry point,citing the studies of scholars and sinologists from neighboring countries on the Peony Pavilion,combing the research process of the Peony Pavilion and exploring the research characteristics.Based on the common cultural environment,the study of neighboring countries is helpful to examine the shortcomings of domestic research by the perspective of“the others”.Both above two chapters are based on the research contents of text translation,scholars and sinologists.The third chapter discusses the overseas communication influence of the Peony Pavilion by the perspective of stage performance.At the end of the 20th century,the Peony Pavilion drama went abroad and spread its glory abroad.In 1998,Perter Sellers'the Peony Pavilion boldly deconstructed and innovated traditional kunqu opera,and re-interpreted the Peony Pavilion by using postmodernism.In 1999,the folk version of the Peony Pavilion directed by Chen Shizheng was performed in full for the first time.In 2006,the youth version of the Peony Pavilion directed by Bai Xianyong was staged in the United States and was well received.The“original”interpretation of kunqu opera broke through cultural barriers and was widely recognized by foreign audiences.The persistence of tradition is the most important factor for the success of other classic operas in China,which can also be used for reference when they go abroad.
