With the rapid development of Shandong Peninsula,Yantai has been one of the most developed coastal cities.Therefore,more and more rural laborers with their children are coming to work in the city.In order to solve the education problems of the migrant workers' children in the city,some public junior high schools are designated for receiving these children,which adds burden to these schools and the complexity of the students.Due to the uniqueness of the growing environment of migrant workers' children,their English learning has distinct characteristics under the unique causes.The current situation of English learning has caused many confusions and dilemmas under the influence of social background,family status,education foundation,and willingness to study.In order to promote social harmony,reflect educational fairness and improve the English learning of children living in Yantai city,it is necessary to carry out a thorough investigation and study.Based on the background,the paper mainly focuses on the current situation of English learning of migrant workers' children in junior high schools.There are four research questions set to understand the current situation of English learning of migrant workers' children.These questions will find influencing factors to help English teachers adopt correct teaching strategies and methods to improve the effectiveness of English teaching.They can also help parents to change their educational styles at homes.1)What are the attitudes of migrant workers' children towards English learning?2)What is the current situation of migrant workers' children's English learning habits and methods(which mainly refers to remember words and texts,preview and review,finish homework and read and listen to English materials)?3)In what aspects do the family environments influence migrant workers' children's English learning?4)In what aspects do the teachers influence migrant workers' children's English learning?Questionnaires and interview are employed to collect the data and information on investigate English learning situation of migrant workers' children.The students and parents were chosen from three junior high schools.A total of 200 questionnaires were distributed to the students,and a total of 200 questionnaires were sent to the parents of the students.On the other hand,the author interviewed eight English teachers of these classes to supplement students' answers.The author interviewed the teachers in the school office and recorded their answers.The author analyzed and discussed the date to find the factors and problems.Through the survey,the author has got the following findings:(1)Most migrant workers' children have right attitudes towards English learning,and they can keep harmonious relationship with their teachers,but the classroom participation is not high;(2)The English learning methods of the migrant workers' children are not good,and they don't form good study habits.The students have weak English skills and abilities.(3)Family influence is mainly reflected in the following aspects: parents are busy with livelihood and they have low level of education,which is impossible for them to counsel children.Although family income is getting higher and higher,English learning investment for children is still insufficient.Most parents rely too much on teachers.(4)The influence of teachers is mainly reflected in the teaching methods.English teachers have more students in the classroom.Most teachers still use traditional teaching methods,and the pressure of teaching in accordance with their aptitude is greater.On the basis of research,the author points out the causes,and gives pertinent and reasonable suggestions and countermeasures from the family,self,teachers and schools.The author hopes to give guidance on the English learning path of the children in the city,and help them improve their English learning.
