As a special group of society,the English education of migrant workers’ children has attracted wide attention from all walks of life.Although domestic and foreign scholars have carried out a lot of research on the education of migrant workers’ children,there are few studies focusing on the English vocabulary learning of migrant workers’ children.Therefore,in order to promote the English learning ability of migrant workers’ children in the junior middle school,this thesis mainly studies from the following three issues: Firstly,what are the problems in English vocabulary acquisition of migrant workers’ children in junior middle school of Guiyang? Secondly,what are the causes of problems? Thirdly,how to effectively solve the problems in the English vocabulary acquisition of migrant worker’ children?This study selects all students in the ninth grade of three junior middle schools in Guiyang as the research subjects.Among these schools,two of them are schools for migrant workers’ children and the other one is a school for non-migrant workers’ children.The researcher firstly makes full use of the BaiCiZhan software,which is widely used in testing the vocabulary of students and helping them memorize words.Furthermore,by questionnaires,interviews and observations,the thesis investigates differences in English vocabulary acquisition between migrant and non-migrant workers’ children in Guiyang.Lastly,the thesis explores theproblems existing in the vocabulary acquisition of migrant workers’ children and their causes,and then puts forward corresponding strategies and suggestions on this basis.Through collating and analyzing the collected data,this thesis draws the following conclusions:First,compared with the children of non-migrant workers,most of migrant workers’ children are seriously short of vocabulary.The Standards of English Courses for Compulsory Education stipulates that ninth-grade students should master the vocabulary level of 1500-1600 words.After entering the ninth grade,there is a large gap between this specified vocabulary level and the vocabulary of migrant workers’ children.Second,most migrant workers’ children have difficulty in memorizing words and do not know how to use vocabulary learning strategies to improve their English vocabulary skills.Third,the vocabulary learning habits of migrant workers’ children need to be improved.And this kind of students often feel fearful when learning vocabulary.Fourth,in the process of English vocabulary acquisition,the children of non-migrant workers have no clear learning purpose and lack of enthusiasm for learning English vocabulary,which leads to insufficient achievement motivation.In order to better cultivate and improve the ability of English vocabulary acquisition for migrant workers’ children,the researcher puts forward the following feasible solutions: First,students should establishreasonable goals during the process of vocabulary acquisition.Second,students should strive to stimulate learning interests in vocabulary learning.What more,these students should develop their vocabulary learning habits and use vocabulary learning strategies and methods correctly.Thirdly,students should rationally treat the success or failure of vocabulary learning.Fourthly,students should enhance achievement motivation for vocabulary learning to improve the learning ability of vocabulary by performing correct and scientific attribution. |
