English phonetics is an important part of English.Vocabulary acquisition,listening comprehension and oral communication are influenced by phonetic teaching,which plays an important role in English learning.With the continuous improvement of people's understanding of the communicative function of language,the importance of phonetic teaching has attracted more and more attention,and it is also an important basic stage of junior high school English learning.In order to understand the current situation of English phonetic teaching and learning in junior high school,this paper conducts a survey in Beita Junior High School in Beipiao,Liaoning province.Six English teachers and 140 students were selected.Data were collected through classroom observation,questionnaires and interviews with teachers and students.SPSS and Excel were used for further analysis to study the following three questions:Question 1: What is the current situation of English phonetic teaching in the investigated junior high school?Question 2: What is the students' feedback to current English phonetic teaching?Question 3: What is the current situation of students' English phonetic learning?According to the findings,the English phonetic teaching and learning in the investigated junior high school basically meet the requirements of the new curriculum standards.English teachers have strong English proficiency and ability,and students have a high evaluation of feedback to teachers' teaching.Teachers have used some teaching methods to teach phonetics.Students can understand phonetic teaching,and every student has his own phonetic learning strategies.But there are still some problems,such as teachers' weak understanding of phonetic teaching,lack of overall goals and systematic plans for phonetic teaching.Students' phonetics mastery and the use of phonetic learning strategies are not comprehensive enough.To solve these problems,teachers can take the following countermeasures: creating a good phonetic environment,enriching teaching methods,cultivating students' good phonetic habits and setting up phonetic tests.It is hoped that these findings can provide some references for English phonetic teaching and learning in junior high schools.
