| In recent years,English education has achieved fruitful results in developed areas of China. However, the situation of English teaching in rural area is not optimistic. It was found that obvious polarization appeared in students’ English learning in rural junior high school. With the deepening of learning, there are more and more students who fall behind in English learning. The gap between high-achievers and under-achievers is getting larger and larger. Finally, the class is basically divided into two poles, one is the high-achievers,and the other is under-achievers.Moreover,polarization shows a trend of getting earlier, larger and more serious, which is not only an education problem, but also a social problem. Therefore,it deserves enough attention to study its current situation, influencing factors, and effective improvement methods to effectively curb it.Based on attribution theory, questionnaire and interview are adopted in this thesis to focus on the following two questions: 1)What is the current situation of English learning polarization among the students in rural junior high school? 2)What are the main reasons for this phenomenon? Through the analysis of the survey results,it is found that the polarization does exist, and the reasons for this phenomenon are various, including social factors,English subject characteristics, teaching materials, teacher factors, and family factors and so on.Therefore,in order to improve this situation,it is necessary to take actions from several aspects, and corresponding methods should be put forward, such as reinforcing the use of new technology, stimulating the learning interest of under-achievers,enhancing strategy guidance of under-achievers,improving English teachers’ academic literacy and creating a good family environment. To sum up,the influencing factors of polarization is complex, and it may change with the society, but as long as school, society and family three aspects closely cooperate to take effective measures in time, can reduce the differentiation and truly embody the connotation of quality education. |
