As one of the earliest poetry collections in the world,the Book of Poetry is also one of Chinese classics.For sake of disseminating the beauty of this classics around the world,translators as well as scholars at home and abroad have possessed an overwhelming urgent and made unremitting efforts to the publication of different versions of the Book of Poetry.Images,is the soul of poetry and where the beauty originated,and the images in Chinese literature initiated from the Book of Poetry,in which,most poems applied the Bi Xing artistic skill to realize the perfect combination of people's intention or feeling and the external visualization of natural objects.According to the artistic expression means,images in the Book of Poetry can be classified into descriptive images,metaphorical images and symbolic images,and respectively they make differences in the creation of poems.The thesis aims to select plant images in Guofeng of the Book of poetry as research materials,and choose the translation version of Xu Yanchong to analyze the representation of these images with the guidance of Liu Miqing's translation aesthetic theories.Translation aesthetics,the combination of translation and aesthetics,has been a rapidly developed research discipline in recent years.It aims to apply the principle of aesthetics to solve the issues concerning the perception and the creation of beauty in the process of translation.Poetry translation is a genre that rich in beauty,it's translation tends to be more artistic,rather than scientific.However,poems in the Book of Poetry can be regarded the art of arts,especially the various images,thus to explain the issues of images translation with the help of principles of translation aesthetics is of great academic value and also the optimal perspective.Liu Miqing's translation aesthetic theory deemed the artistry to be one of basic attributes of translation,he not only explained that literary works contain the beauty of formal system and non-formal system,but also divided the literary beauty into several levels so as to put forward relevant translation strategies or methods to solve different problems or give explanations during translation,and his translation aesthetic theory shares a lot in common with translation aesthetic ideas of Xu Yuanchong.As the research object of translation aesthetics in this thesis,the plant images in the part of Guofeng,which became poet's emotional carrier with the application of Fu,Bi and Xing,and incorporated their subjective feeling or emotion,are filled with profound cultural connotation and artistic value.The thesis is intended to explain the efforts Xu Yuanchong made to apply different strategies in the course of image translation by virtue of some methods such as literature study,textual analysis and comparative analysis.After analysis and conclusion,the author found that in the representation of plant images,Xu's version tends to be a means to choose the best,a aesthetic compensating means,which seeks for a way of compromise between translatability and untranslatability to the representation of images.The research regarding the representation of plant images in Guofeng from the perspective of translation aesthetics,not only enables foreign and domestic readers to have a deep understanding of images and the cultural connotation as well as the artistic value of the classics,but also provides translators and scholars with methodological guidance as well as research perspectives in later theoretical studies and translation practices,also,enriches the translation studies of the Book of Poetry.
