| The business of teaching Chinese as second language has been developing since the 1950s in China.Correspondingly,publications in this field are constantly reflecting the progress and changes of the discipline.Among them,the most relevant to the development of the subject is the books related to the teaching method.However,there are very few studies on the topic selection,sales situation,and readers’needs for the teaching method publications.Therefore,this study collected sales data of books related to teaching Chinese as second language sold on the Amazon.cn and Dangdang.com and using data fitting tool in Excel to design a set of book demand calculation system.Based on calculation results,this study analyzed the demand of books on teaching Chinese as second language and sales situation of selected publishers.Simultaneously,questionnaires were designed and issued to understand readers’ considerations when purchasing academic books.Chapter 1 is a general introduction of the research background and actuality.It presents results and disadvantages of past researches,emphasizes the importance and value of this research,especially of understanding teaching Chinese as second language,the methods of it,as well as the publication and e-commerce platforms in related fields.Chapter 2 introduces the data sources and analysis method with detailed data,including publisher list,book list,sales statistics of Amazon and Dangdang,as well as survey result.Based on such results and data,a book demand assessment system is designed and introduced in chapter 3,which integrates and process the data,re-ranks the books,fits the data,defines the parameters and calculates the scores based on the data collected from the two e-commerce platforms.With the results,analysis book demands from two perspective of total and cataloged.Chapter 4 summarizes the result,deduces several discussions of key points and development of Chinese teaching and readers’ need.Thus,Chapter 5 makes some suggestions to the publishers and distributors. |
