| With the development of society,the advancement of science and technology,international exchanges have become more frequent.Good English communication skills have become an indispensable tool for high-end talent.Higher vocational education is an important and inseparable component of higher education,and its ultimate goal is to cultivate comprehensive talents with rich management experience,strong theoretical foundation and practical ability.Teachers are the foundation of education.The professional development of higher vocational teachers directly affects the quality of education in higher vocational colleges.After the 1980 s,the professional development of teachers began to be studied by the education community,but the professional development of English teachers in higher vocational schools was not enough.Therefore,the professional development of English teachers in higher vocational schools has become an important topic of current research.This thesis takes 103 English teachers from five vocational colleges in Yuncheng as the research object.Through questionnaires and interviews,we can understand the current situation of teachers’ professional development,notice the problems,and find out the factors that affect professional development of English teachers in higher vocational colleges.And strategies to promote the professional development of English teachers in higher vocational schools are also proposed in this thesis.The paper summarizes the factors affecting the professional development of English teachers in higher vocational schools.There are personal factors and school factors.Personal factors mainly include the weak education belief of vocational English teachers and the lack of professional development awareness.The professional knowledge of vocational English teachers is insufficient.Besides,vocational English teachers have low professional skills.School factors mainly include that higher vocational colleges focus on professional courses and do not value basic courses;higher vocational colleges lack comprehensive training systems,standard incentive mechanisms and systematic evaluation mechanisms.In response to the influencing factors,the author puts forward corresponding strategies from the individual level and the school level.At the individual level: teachers should establish a firm sense of teacher belief and the awareness of self-development,develop the concept of lifelong learning,enhance scientific research awareness and improvescientific research capabilities.School level: Higher vocational colleges should establish the academic status of higher vocational English courses to guide teachers to grow and build a training system and a college platform to help teachers grow;Higher vocational colleges should develop effective incentives to stimulate teacher growth and establish a scientific evaluation mechanism to promote the growth of teachers.Under the background of the new vocational English curriculum reform,the professional development of English teachers in vocational colleges not only improve teachers’ comprehensive quality,but also promote the comprehensive development of higher vocational colleges. |
