After the nineteen fifties, the important research topic of educational research has turned to the research of teacher professional development. And it has got abundant achievement. Compare with it, the research of teacher professional development from higher vocational college has hardly any result, especially for English teacher professional development from higher vocational college. Under the current situation of China, the reform of English teaching in higher vocational colleges are generally carried out for Higher Vocational College and set higher requirements for English teacher professional development from vocational college. But the reality of the situation is not optimistic, it can not adapt to the objective of personnel cultivation of higher vocational college and the development and reform of teaching. Therefore, the urgent need to address the problem is to pay attention to and promote the professional development of English teachers in Higher Vocational colleges. In view of the above factors, this paper will take Jiangxi as an example, straighten out and summarize the related research of teacher development by foreign and Chinese scholars. Based on it, defines the concepts of English teacher professional development and English teacher professional development from higher vocational college. Through the implementation of the step, it has been studied to find suitable research corresponding entry point, a lifelong the theory of education, action research, teacher professional development theory as guidance and theoretical basis, with literature analysis. Using comprehensive utilization of research method, interview method, questionnaire survey method and so on as research techniques. The author selected English teachers from ten higher vocational colleges in Jiujiang as the research object, using questionnaire survey and interview some teachers. Get information about the present state of English teacher professional development from higher vocational college, and then take deeply discussion about the current English teacher professional development problems and influencing factors. One is based on the survey of teachers’ professional knowledge and ability, professional development and ways, educational beliefs, professional development needs and consciousness on the current situation. So it be able to understand the phenomenon of higher vocational college English teacher professional development, and try to explore the problems and the influencing factors of English teacher professional development from higher vocational college. On the other hand, according to the problems and the influencing factors, the author will maximum utilize the summary and achievement of teacher development theories domestic and overseas. Present the advices about promoting the development of English teacher professional development from higher vocational college which are based on three dimensions as teacher, school and society.
