of methodology,a growing number of quantitative studies have found that narcissism has different structure types. The conclusion that overt narcissism represents narcissism traits cannot fully reveal the individual characteristics of narcissistic personality.Research has shown that high-level narcissists are prone to the attribution of self-serving bias in order to maintain a positive and unique self-concept.Awe can effectively help reduce one’s self-awareness,shift their concern about one’s own interests away and promote their objective self-evaluation.It is also found that when individuals experience positive emotions, they are more likely to have self-serving bias.On the whole,high-level narcissists tend to have self-serving bias attribution and awe can reduce one’s self-consciousness to make objective self-evaluation.There is a positive correlation between positive emotional experience and self-serving bias. However,as a type of positive emotion,it is worth considering whether the influence of awe on self-serving bias should be improved or reduced. There is hardly any clear research in China to investigate the relationship among awe, narcissism and self-serving bias. Therefore, this paper explores and analyzes the self-serving bias of college students with different narcissism types(overt narcissism, covert narcissism and non-narcissism)under awe through two studies. The subjects of this study were college students.Study l examines the attribution of self-serving bias in implicit causality among college students with overt narcissism, covert narcissism and non-narcissism.Study 2 includes pre-experiment and formal experiment.Through semi-structured interviews, the pre-experiment collected specific video and reading materials that could induce awe among college students. The effects of different inducing situations(physical and social)and ways(video and reading)on the induction of awe were evaluated.Materials that can significantly induce awe were chosen as inducements in formal studies.By comparing with the control group, this paper explores the attribution difference of self-serving bias of college students of different narcissism types(overt narcissism, covert narcissism and non-narcissism)before and after the initiation of self-serving bias.Study 1 found there is no significant difference in self-serving bias among college students with different narcissism types.College students show self-serving bias in the face of the attribution of interpersonal events with implicit causality. In the face of negative events, individuals are more likely to attribute to themselves in their role as agents than in their role as patients.Through the results of self-serving bias of three groups of narcissistic college students,it is found that there are two attribution strategies,self-enhancement and self-protection,when college students in overt narcissism play the role of agent in interpersonal events. When playing the role of patient in interpersonal events, the individual only uses the self-protection attribution strategy.College students in covert narcissism group have obvious self-protection strategies. In self-related events,non-narcissistic college students are more likely to be attributed to others than to themselves.Research 2 showed that both social and physical situations have significant effects on the induction of college students’ awe.Compared with control group, the self-serving bias of the students in the overt narcissism group decreased under the awe of physical situation. Moreover,In the covert narcissism group, the self-serving bias of college students in the social situation-induced awe was reduced. However, the self-serving bias of non-narcissistic college students has no obvious trend of increase or decline. The conclusions of the research are as follows:College students have self-serving bias in implied causality interpersonal events. There was no significant difference in self-serving bias among college students of different narcissism types.Overt narcissistic college students show two strategies of self-enhancement and self-protection when they are agents.Overt narcissistic college students only show self-protection strategies when they are patients.Covert narcissistic college students show significant self-protection strategies.Non-narcissistic college students self-serving bias was not significant. The self-serving bias of college students in overt narcissism group decreased while the self-serving bias of covert narcissism group decreased under the initiation of social situation awe emotion. The self-serving bias of non-narcissistic college students did not increase or decrease significantly. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | overt narcissism, covert
