In the process of English learning for students,reading is a very important aspect.The mastery and improvement of reading ability contributes to students' consolidation and expansion of vocabulary.It can effectively train students' thinking and understanding ability,which is good to improve their ability,and it will improve their ability to use English,thus improving their comprehensive scores.Besides,the improvement of English reading ability also helps to expand students' knowledge and improve the ability to acquire various knowledge.Therefore,in the high school English teaching,it is necessary to strengthen English reading teaching.Yet in the traditional English teaching,the cultivation of English reading ability is often neglected.In the traditional teaching,only the explanation of phrases and words is emphasized.For students,their knowledge about syntax is relatively inadequate and they can't master effective reading methods and techniques.They can only improve their English reading ability by simply doing a lot of exercises,and their reading ability is difficult to improve.In this paper,different methods such as questionnaire method,teaching experiment method,test method and mathematical statistics method are used.The author tries to prove three questions by applying syntactic analysis to English reading teaching.The first one is whether applying syntactic analysis to reading teaching can relieve students'reading anxiety and improve their interest in reading.The second one is whether applying syntactic analysis to reading teaching can improve students' accuracy in reading comprehension and reading ability so as to improve their reading scores.The third one is whether applying syntactic analysis to reading teaching can help students get rid of poor reading habits,master and learn to apply appropriate reading skills,thus improving their reading speed.The teaching experiment goes through one term.The effect of the teaching experiment is tested by collecting and analyzing the statistics from the questionnaire survey and reading scores and reading speed of the experimental class and control class in the pretest and post-test.It founds that by applying syntactic analysis to reading teaching,it can effectively relieve students' anxiety in reading,thus improving their reading interest.Besides,it can contribute to students' accuracy in reading comprehension and promote their ability to gain and deal with information from the passage,their ability to infer and judge information,their ability to guess the meaning of words by the context or analyzing the sentence structure and their ability to understand the main idea of the passage.As a result,their reading scores have also been improved.At last,it can help students get rid of their poor reading habits,master and learn to use proper reading skills,thus increasing their reading speed.
