| In recent years,more and more scholars have studied critical reading.The cultivation of critical thinking ability in reading is called critical reading.“Critical reading refers to a high-level understanding of the text,which includes interpretation and evaluation”.(ShiWenting)Critical reading teaching is to apply critical thinking to reading teaching,so that students can change from traditional and static appreciators to active readers,examiners,questioners and analysts.Critical reading teaching can help students build up self-awareness,better enhance students’ reading ability,improve students’ innovative consciousness and ability,and promote the cultivation of students’ ability to analyze and solve problems independently.English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools clearly stated the request for the language ability and thinking quality of the core qualities of English subject: in a wide range of language situations,readers should critically examine the content,viewpoints,emotional attitudes and stylistic features of the text,and appreciate the means of expressing the brilliant paragraphs in the text.According to the various information acquired,the readers should sum up the common elements,construct new concepts,and deal with new problems through deduction,interpretation and understand the world from another perspective.In view of the various viewpoints acquired,the readers should put forward critical questions,distinguish and judge the value of viewpoints and ideas,and form his own viewpoints.The effectiveness of English teaching to cultivate students’ critical thinking ability is determined by the application of critical reading to English reading teaching so as to improve the comprehensive ability of using English.Therefore,carrying out critical reading in high school is conducive to theimprovement of students’ reading ability and meets the new curriculum standard’s requirements.Based on the previous studies on critical reading and directed by constructivist learning theory and critical discourse analysis theory,for reference of the critical reading teaching model in China,the author adopted Liu Hui and Wang He’s critical reading teaching model.The purpose of this study is to explore whether the critical reading teaching model enhances students’ critical reading awareness and improves their reading ability and critical reading ability.The experiment lasted one term.Two parallel classes in Grade Two,No.1 Middle School in Wuyuan County are the experimental subjects.The experimental class develops critical reading teaching model,and the control class continues to use the original pattern of reading teaching.The author adopts questionnaire,reading ability test to collect data,and adopt SPSS23.0 to analyze the collected data.The experimental results show that:1)Critical reading teaching model enhances senior high school students’ consciousness of critical reading.2)Critical reading teaching model improves senior high school students’ reading ability.3)Critical reading teaching model improves senior high school students’ critical reading ability. |
