This report is a translation practice report based on From Cold War to Hot Peace. The translator chooses two chapters of this book, prologue and epilogue as the translated material, which totals about 10,000 words. This book is a typical political text written by Michael McFaul who once worked as the U.S.ambassador to Russia. The main idea of this text is the relationship between U.S.and Russia. The reporter focuses on analyzing problems occurring in the translation process and then finds corresponding methods to solve them.At first,in terms of the original text's lexical and rhetorical features, the author divides all these problems into four aspects: words implying political tendency and ideology, words containing emotional meanings, special political terminologies and metaphors used in political texts. Then under the guidance of the communicative translation theory, this report proposes different translation methods according to these four problems, such as literal translation, free translation, combination of literal translation and annotation, conversion and addition.Besides, lots of specific examples are added to further explain the reasons of choosing those translation methods. |
