From 1918 to 1925,on the support of Liu Bannong and the president of Beijing University Cai Yuanpei and Shen Yimo,Peking University launched a grand Folklore Movement over the whole country.Liu Bannong,Shen Yimo and other people's folk exploration activities centered on the singing movement have had an important impact on the period of the new poetry and constitute an important part of the May Fourth Movement.Nowadays,the Folklore Movement has been born for more than 100 years.This paper takes the folk exploration of Liu Bannong in the May Fourth period as the research object,and explores the background of the rise of folk exploration,the impact on the new poetry and the reasons for its failure.The part of presents the meaning of this paper,the current research status and the methods may be applied.The first chapter explains the poetic theory of Liu Bannong's "take as folk's model".On the basis of clarifying the concept of folk,analyzing the position of folk values embodied in Liu Bannong's poetry creation.In emotional expression,folklore has the characteristic of "spontaneous and free expression",which coincides with the poetics of"true poetry" advocated by Liu Bannong.Folk resources have become the object of Liu Bannong's poetic creation and learning from.The second chapter is based on Liu Bannong's poetic creation.It explains the influence of folk exploration on new poetry from three aspects:poetic qualities,poetic languages and poetic styles,and elaborates the background and internal reasons of the Folklore Movement.Seeking "truth" has become the basic principle of Liu Bannong's poetic creation.The aesthetic taste of his poems tends to "natural words,natural tones,natural emotions".He is still getting nourishment in folk resources and actively practicing poetry claims,such as "destroying old rhymes,re-creating new rhymes" and"increasing poetry".The third chapter discusses the meanings and limitations of Liu Bannong's exploration of folk culture during the May Fourth period.Liu Bannong's folk exploration has enriched the emotional and spiritual world of the creative subject,and produced a personalized artistic style with rich local connotations.The excavation,arrangement and bold imitation of folk songs reflect the author's civilian position and the aesthetic taste of folk culture.In the middle of the "civilian",as a bridge between ancient and modern China and foreign countries,the May Fourth scholars made a variety of useful explorations on the development of new poetry and jointly promoted the development of new poetry.However,due to the limitations of the new poem itself and the inability to continue to support the modernization of the new poetry,folk exploration has failed.The conclusion summarizes the thesis briefly and expresses some prospects for the folk exploration of Liu Bannong's poetry during the May Fourth period.
