| With the realization of Chinese Dream and the One Road and One Belt Initiative,China is becoming increasingly connected with other countries.Its communication involves not only politics and economies,but also science and technology.The translation of science and technology materials bridges communication gaps between China and foreign countries.In this way,foreigners become acquainted with the development of China.The quality of translation will directly influence the transmission of China’s advanced technologies.However,the translation of sci-tech materials is becoming more difficult due to concision,accuracy,standardization,quantities of technical terms and its long and difficult sentences.Thus,in order to ensure the quality of the translation,the translator uses a variety of translation techniques on the basis of a good understanding of the source textThis report is a practical one on Chinese-English translation of science and technology The translator extracts as translation task the core chapter of the book Technology of Steel Slag Treatment and Utilization of Resources,which was published in 2016 to introduce the advanced technologies and experimental results in the re-utilization of steel slag in China.The author analyzes the target text under the guidance of the Skopos theory which includes three rules:the fidelity rule,the coherence rule,and the Skopos rule.The report consists of four chapters:Chapter One is the task description of the translation task,which involves an introduction,its features and significance.Chapter Two talks about translation procedures of the task,which includes preparation before translation,and quality control.Chapter Three is the core part of the report,which analyzes the cases under the guidance of the Skopos theory from lexical,syntactical and discourse level.Chapter Four summarizes difficulties and reflections during the whole translation task.Skopos theory is an essential theoretical basis in this report.Under the guidance of this theory,C-E translation of sci-tech material should conform to reading habits and thinking patterns of targeted readers.To reach this purpose,the translator must use many translation skills such as omission,repetition,and converting from active voice to passive voice.The aim of this report is to guide other translators in the field of sci-tech materials. |
