| With the continuous growth of China’s economy and the rising trend of economic globalization,more and more significant achievements have been made in the field of science and technology.At the same time,academic communications in the field of science and technology have become an indispensable part of social development,and academic paper is one of the key parts of international academic communication.For Chinese sci-tech papers,accurate and smooth English translation is an important step to achieve their final communication purpose.The source texts studied in this translation practice report are three sci-tech papers,which cover fault monitoring methods,control strategy for power grid voltage,and aviation data acquisition system design.There are more than 15000 words in this translation practice of the three sci-tech papers.The first part of this report specifically introduces the background and requirements of the translation task and clarifies its practical practice.The second part describes the translation process in detail,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third part introduces the translation theory adopted in the translation process,the Skopos Theory,and analyzes the guiding significance of this theory in the translation of sci-tech papers.The fourth part is the main part of this report.By analyzing vocabularies,syntax,and texts in the specific translation process,it explains in detail the methods and techniques that should be paid attention to in the translation of sci-tech papers and the problems which should be avoided in the process of translation.And the fifth part is a summary of this translation practice report,which includes the author’s gains,inspirations and deficiencies in this translation report.The author deeply realized the guiding role of Skopos Rule in translation through this translation practice.In Skopos Rule,’ Skopos Rule’ emphasizes that the translator should select the translation method according to the purpose of the source text.‘Coherence Rule’requires that the translation should conform to the language expression habits of English.And ’Fidelity Rule’ stresses that the translation should be loyal to the source text content.The translator must at least consider the three aspects of the source text:logic,semantics and tone in translation.Thus,in translation process of sci-tech texts,it is necessary to understand the fundamental differences between English and Chinese in terms of vocabularies,sentences and texts. |
