A Study Of Coinage In Guyuan Dialect

In the initial stage of the study of Chinese coinage,many scholars confused coinage and Word-formation without distinction.With the deepening of the study,people have reached a consensus on the distinction between them: Word-formation studies the composition of words and analysis the structural of words that have been formed.It belongs to the category of gramological research.Coinage studies how new words come into being and how things get their names.It belongs to the category of lexicology.This paper takes Guyuan dialect,which belongs to the Zhongyuan mandarin in Ningxia,as the research object,and obtains a large number of Guyuan dialect vocabulary through field investigation,supplemented by Guyuan Dialect Dictionary and Guyuan dialect proverbs,tries to explore the characteristics of Guyuan dialect vocabulary from the perspective of coinage,to explore the reasons for the coinage of Guyuan dialect words,and to reveal the people's psychology of coinage.In order to provide supplementary information for Guyuan dialect research and modern Chinese coinage research,and provide the motivation for future generations of words.The main contents of this paper are as follows:The introduction part introduces the research status of this paper,expounds the research purpose,research methods,innovations,Guyuan overview and dialect phonology,and defines the concept of coinage.Reconstructive coinage discusses the emergence of vocabulary from scratch.It mainly includes two categories: explanatory method and rhetoric method.Explanatory method refers to the method of creating new words by explaining things."Rhetoric" refers to the method of creating new words by means of rhetoric,including figurative words,homophonic words,euphemistic words,hyperbole words,etc.Reconstructive coinage refers to the method of creating new words by transforming the original words,transferring their meanings or changing their emotional colors.This kind of coinage includes overlapping word-formation,adding coinage and analogy coinage.In the overlapping word-building method,the meaning of the new words has expanded compared with the old words before overlapping."Addition" means adding "zi" on the basis of the old word,or changing the meaning of the word,or changing the emotional color.Analogy word-formation is also called imitation word-formation.That is to say,on the basis of the base words,new words are produced by changing one of the morphemes.Finally,from the perspective of coinage,the article shows the unique regional culture of the locality,including the characteristics of verbal communication,which emphasizes emotions rather than forms;strong patriarchal concept;concrete thinking characteristics;and the psychology of word-formation which tends to be auspicious and avoids taboos.The concluding part briefly summarizes the main points of the article and points out the shortcomings of the research.
