Wenzhou,located on the coast of China in 1876,with its unique geographical advantages,opened trade with Anhui Wuhu,Hubei Yichang,and Guangxi Northwest Sea in the Sino-British Yantai Treaty.With the mission of "attracting Chinese believers",Western missionaries came to Wenzhou for missionary work.The Wenzhou people,who have long been subject to the oppression of the great powers and feudal traditional ideas,have always been vigilant against these blond foreigners and regard missionary work as one of the means of cultural aggression.In order to carry out the work of Fangbianchuanjiao,the missionaries attracted believers by setting up church schools through education.The missionary church school opened the beginning of Wenzhou's new school education,and Wenzhou became one of the cities in China's coastal areas that opened music education activities earlier.Its learning process and the idea of running a school not only have pioneering significance for music education since modern times but also have enlightening effect on contemporary music education.Based on the study of music education in Wenzhou church schools in modern times,this article collects historical documents,archival materials,church journals and magazines,and interviews church pastors,co-workers,and teachers 'oral memories.The research methods of history,sociology,music aesthetics and anthropology are used to discuss the historical environment and the current research situation.At the time of writing,it is the dual identity of a party who has received church music education and a questioner about the meaning of setting up music education.The development of church schools in modern times was placed in the historical environment at that time.It described its development in an objective and truth-seeking manner,clarified its development path,and further explored the development process of Chinese music education in modern times.This article consists of five parts.The introduction discusses the historical origin,research overview,research methods,and research significance.The first part is the history of the development of Christianity in Wenzhou since modern times.Itdescribes in chronological order the attempts of Christianity in Wenzhou before and after the Opium War.After the opening of Wenzhou,missionaries came to China to promote the development of Christianity in Wenzhou.The second part is the establishment and curriculum of modern Wenzhou Church School.Firstly,from the historical origin and difficult course of the establishment of the church school,this paper expounds the establishment of the modern church school in Wenzhou.Then,the establishment of the church school at that time was objectively described from the aspects of the setting up of the school curriculum and the purpose of education.The third part is the music education interview record of Wenzhou church school since modern times.After analyzing the historical data,they interviewed the pastors,old Christians,and teachers of the church and recorded their music activities of the two more representative church schools "Chongde Primary School" and "Yiwen Primary School" established by the missionaries in Wenzhou at that time.Oral memories of the state of development.By means of questionnaire and interview,the present situation of church music education in Wenzhou is presented in a real and objective way.The fourth part is the existence value and influence of the music education of the church school.In terms of value,it mainly includes the value of education and the value of discipline.In terms of influence,there are aspects such as improving notation,promoting cultural exchanges between Chinese and Western music,and the liberation of Wenzhou women's thoughts.Finally,the conclusion summarizes the historical facts of Wenzhou church school since modern times.We also look forward to the development of Chinese music education in the future.Therefore,the research of this topic takes the music education of Wenzhou church schools as the research object in modern times.It can not only examine the advantages and disadvantages of Christian music education in the last century,but also reflect on the history to take care of the development path of contemporary music education.
