Yuan Shikai began to prepare for the reform of the state system in the spring of 1915.The establishment of the Chief Security Council on August 14 heralded the official publicity of the imperial movement. On December 12,Yuan Shikai accepted the throne in Beijing. His name was"Hong Xian",which was historically called”Hong Xian Monarchy".On June 6,1916,when Yuan Shikai died of illness, the Hongxian monarchy failed under the general resistance of imperialist powers and the people of the whole country.During this period, the development of Yuan Shikai and his Hongxian monarchy was closely related to the attitude changes of imperialist powers, especially Japan.Under this background, this paper explores the role and influence of Japan and other Western powers in the development of Hong Xian's monarchy from the perspective of Japanese newspapers.Five influential mainstream newspapers,Tokyo Asahi Shimbun,Osaka Asahi Shimbun,Current News,Osaka Daily News and Tokyo Daily News, were selected for the study.A total of 180 relevant reports were selected from January 1915 to May 1916.This paper mainly combs and analyses the reports by using the three-level structure theory of literature analysis, text analysis, content analysis and framework. This paper finds that the Japanese newspapers are close to the Japanese government in their standpoint. The Japanese government facilitated the signing of"21"through the manipulation of public opinion, which had a certain impact on the ultimate failure of Hong Xian's monarchy.
