With the development of globalization,as well as the progress of society and science and technology,nowadays,people can learn about the culture,history,human geography,diet and other aspects of different countries through various video at home.Compared with texts,pictures and other forms,documentaries are more scientific and educational,and are an ideal carrier of cultural publicity.Therefore,subtitle translation of documentaries becomes particularly important.This report is a project report on the C-E subtitle translation of the documentary.The author was commissioned by the Documentary Department of Guangxi TV Station to participate in the translation of the fourth,fifth and sixth episodes of the documentary The Xijiang River,with 11834 Chinese characters in total.There is a strong interaction between the written language and the spoken language in the documentary The Xijiang River.The narration is plain in language and rigorous in structure,while the simultaneous speech and the character interview are colloquial in language,loose in structure and free in word using.Based on the Relevance Theory and by means of case analysis,this paper discusses the applicable skills and strategies in subtitle translation of The Xijiang River.The author hopes that by adding English subtitles to The Xijiang River,foreign friends can learn about the history,culture and beauty of the Xijiang River with us.The report is divided into five parts.The first part is project description,which consisting of the source text analysis,target reader analysis and the significance of the translation.The second part is pre-translation preparation,including parallel texts,translation tools and theoretical guidance.The third part is post-translation,which mainly includes quality control and feed-backs of translation works.The forth part is case analysis.In this part,the author adopts 4 different translation strategies and selects some translation cases for analysis.The last part is the concluding part. |
