Dramatic publicity has been flourishing in Chinese society since modern times, with its social and historical factors as well as its unique role as an artistic medium. As the founding period of Chinese drama, the revolution played an important role in revolutionary propaganda. It was precisely because of the need of propaganda that drama was introduced into China for revolutionaries to use,and it was also because of this that drama found the most consistent with Chinese culture and suddenly became integrated into Chinese culture and has been developing till now. This paper mainly takes the drama performance in the period of 1911 revolution as the research object, and analyzes the characteristics and functions of drama in the process of revolution publicity from the perspective of publicity. This paper mainly uses the historical research method to summarize and analyze the drama performance in this period by collecting the historical data reported by popular newspapers and combining with the history of Chinese drama, especially the history of new plays in the late Qing dynasty. This paper mainly analyzes the publicity features from the two perspectives of the form and content of the performance at that time. After sorting out a large number of historical materials and the history of Chinese drama, this paper analyzes the uniqueness of drama as a propaganda medium.First of all, drama performance is essentially a kind of entertainment, which can make the propagandist happy to accept, and can alleviate the resistance psychology generated by the simple preaching form of propaganda.Secondly, compared with the newspaper and other written media, the dramatic performance is more vivid and makes the propagandist have emotional resonance in the story-like story. In addition, the drama performance is easy to understand and accept, does not need the ability of literacy,so the audience base is wide. Finally, for the propagandist, the new play is easy to master in performance skills, easy to learn,do not need to spend a long time to practice. At the same time, this paper, from the Angle of publicity, divides the drama performed during the 1911 revolution into four categories.First, trounced the Qing government, that is,directly criticized the Qing dynasty ruling plays. It is also a common method of propaganda, that is,pointing out theshortcomings of the Qing government,so as to achieve the purpose of revolutionary propaganda.Second, sing the praises of revolution, that is to say,the drama adapted based on the revolutionary heroes.Third, uses for reference, including borrows the ancient to satirize the present and borrows in the metaphor. In other words, historical dramas or historical events are used to create dramas to satirize the society.Using events elsewhere to illustrate the problems of Chinese society makes propaganda more persuasive.Fourth, reflecting the reality, these plays are of The Times, profoundly reflecting the problems of the society at that time, the lives of the people, and even the tragic situation of disasters, etc. It has the same effect on propaganda, that is,the audience can personally perceive their social environment through watching the drama,so as to stimulate or support or participate in the enthusiasm of the revolution.
