The illustrations of Chen Laolian's "The Story of the West Chamber" are the most representative illustrations of Chinese fiction.This paper takes the illustrations of Chen Laolian's "The Story of the West Chamber" as the main object of study.Through sorting out different versions of illustrations of "The Story of the West Chamber" in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties,the reasons for the formation of Chen Laolian's painting style of "The Story of the West Chamber" are In addition,the illustration also has distinct features in the intertextual relationship between graph and text,which is one of the key issues of this paper.In terms of illustration style and language performance,this paper analyses the layout and intertextuality of the illustrations in Chen Laolian's The Story of the West Chamber,and the influence of the illustrations on the later illustration creation and Japanese painting art.The first chapter of this paper analyses the environment of Chen Banxi's birth.The second and third chapters analyze the formal language of Chen Laolian's paintings by comparing them comprehensively.Chapter Four explores the influence of Chen Laolian's illustrations in the Romance of the West Chamber on the prints of the Qing Dynasty and Japanese Ukiyo painting.
