Grammar is the foundation for language learning and mastering grammar knowledge can promote English learning. With the deepening of the new curriculum reform,English Curriculum Criteria for Compulsory Education in China(2017)also clearly states that the study of grammar knowledge directly affects the application on students' comprehensive language abilities, which puts higher emphasis on both teachers' teaching and students' learning. When studying the current situation of grammar teaching in middle school, the author found that the current grammar teaching still has the following problems.Firstly, teachers use a single teaching method that neglects the students' individual differences to some extent.Secondly, teachers' contempt for classroom activities leads to dull classroom atmosphere.Thirdly, teachers pay too much attention to grammar training and ignore the cultivation of students' comprehensive capacities in language application.Similarly, students also have some difficulty in learning grammar. At first, due to the complex grammatical content and numerous grammatical rules, students are prone to fear. Then students' mechanical learning patterns lead them to be less motivated and thus not be interested in grammar learning.Next, students have a vague purpose in learning grammar and also pay less attention to grammar learning. In order to improve the grammar problems of teachers and students mentioned above,it is imperative to explore effective grammar teaching methods.Howard Gardner,an American psychologist, first proposed the theory of multiple intelligences(MIT)in 1983.In the field of education,MIT emphasizes that teachers must find out the different levels of students' intelligence in the teaching process and teach students in accordance with their aptitudes to meet the different needs of their knowledge development. Therefore, the author attempts to adopt MIT to guide English grammar teaching in middle school,in order to increase the enjoyment of grammar classroom by designing diverse teaching activities, and to cultivate students' interest in learning as well as to improve students' grammar learning consciousness and comprehensive ability in language application. The author decides to take the two classes in Grade Seven of Zhengzhou No.51 Middle School as the control class(CC)and the experimental class(EC)respectively. The former used the traditional grammar teaching method, while the latter applied MIT to the English grammar teaching. This research mainly focuses on the following questions:1.What is the influence on students' intelligence of the grammar teaching guided by MIT?2.How can teachers effectively apply MIT to grammar teaching, and what effect will it have on students' grammar learning?During the experiment, the author conducted the experiment through tests, questionnaires, interviews and SPSS.The results have shown that, for one thing, grammar teaching under the guidance of MIT can strengthen students' weak intelligence and promote their development of multiple intelligence. For another thing, students learning in this mode can effectively improve grammar scores, stimulate learning interest and change attitude towards learning.
