The policy of the United States towards Cambodia during Lyndon Johnson administration was part of its foreign policy towards Southeast Asia. After the end of the second World War,the world structure rapidly entered the Cold War pattern of confrontation between the two camps led by the United States and the Soviet Union.Southeast Asia is an important area where the United States prevents communism from falling south in Asia, and is one of the key areas for the United States and Soviet Union to compete for.In order to prevent communism from spreading to other Southeast Asian countries,Indochina policy was at the heart of American Asian policy for a long time in the Cold War.Vietnam was at the heart of Indochinaundefineds policy, and as Cambodia bordered Vietnam, the United States gradually attached importance to the small country. The United States wanted to establish Cambodia as a pro-American regime, but because Cambodia's neutral policy has also shattered the dream of the United States, and the relationship between the two countries was in a state of crisis.Cambodia's leader—Sihanouk, has always valued Cambodia's independence and territorial integrity, but a series of border incidents initiated by the United States undermined Cambodia's territorial integrity. On May 3,1965,the United States bombed the Cambodian parrot mouth area in the rocket action plan.As a protest,Sihanouk chose to break diplomatic relations with the United States.Although the United States after the break-up also sought opportunities for reconciliation, but eventually the two countries did not resume diplomatic relations during Johnsonundefineds administration from 1965 to 1969.This article consists of three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction part introduces the purpose and significance of the research, the structure of the thesis, research methods and innovations, the research status at home and abroad, the original archives and so on.The second part is the body part, which is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is a retrospective of the diplomatic relations between the two countries before the break of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States. It analyzed the diplomatic relations between the United States and Cambodia from the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Cambodia in 1950 to the time whenthe Cambodia and United States broke off diplomatic relations in 1964.The second chapter discusses the process and reasons for the breakdown of the relationship between the United States and Cambodia. The first subsection mainly includes the US invasion of the Cambodian border incident and the "bombing of the parrot mouth" incident that led to the complete break-up between Cambodia and the United States. After the two countries broke diplomatic relations, although the United States made some efforts to restore relations with Cambodia, most of them ended in failure. The second section analyzes the complex reasons why the United States and Cambodia did not resume diplomatic relations from 1965 to 1969,mainly including the United States suspected that Cambodia secretly supported the Viet Cong, the United States to take corresponding measures and the impact of the Australian border declaration on the relationship between the United States and Cambodia. The third chapter analyzes the impact of the rupture of US-Cambodia relations from 1965 to 1969 and analyzes it,including the impact of the relationship between the United States and Cambodia on the US Asian strategy, the Cambodian and Vietnamese wars, and the relations between China, the United States and Cambodia. An analysis of American hegemonism,Sihanouk's neutral policy, and Johnson's anti-communist.The conclusion part mainly summarizes and summarizes the foreign policy of the United States toward Cambodia during Johnson's administration,at the same time,it points out that whether the United States intervenes more or controls less in Southeast Asian affairs, the basic policy goal of the United States is unchanged, that is,to prevent communist forces from controlling Southeast Asia.
