As the hot field of research at home and abroad,Artificial Intelligence has been the focus of discussion. It has developed rapidly in areas such as education, health care, and finance, and has made great strides in public services, home services, and information dissemination as well. However,in the book of Artificial Unintelligence: How computers misunderstand the world,Broussard goes the other way and depicts the limitations of AI through numerous examples. Therefore, research on translation project Artificial Unintelligence will help people have a complete and objective understanding of AI,and will help translators improve translation and comprehensive skills. This report, under the description of Catford's Translation Shifts theory, adopts the social science text Artificial Unintelligence as the research object aiming to explore how to translate social science texts based on Catford's translation shifts theory. The translation shift theory proposed by Catford includes two main types, the level shift and the category shift, and the category shift is divided into the structure shift, the class shift and the unit shift.English and Chinese belong to different families,so the target text does not correspond to the source text in expressions and sentence patterns. Therefore, the translator focuses on specific words and sentence structures such as complex sentences with several modifiers in the translation process and applies the techniques of level shifts and category shifts to the whole text.By summarizing linguistic features and further discussing translation skills of social science texts, the translator hopes to provide a theoretical basis for the translation of similar texts.
