The issue of equitable education and balanced development of compulsory education is a hot topic in the current people's livelihood,especially the gap between urban and rural education.English is one of the important subjects in compulsory education.Due to various adverse factors,the quality of English teaching,compared with whom in junior high schools in the county,is always at a lower level in rural junior high schools.And there is still a big gap which is tending bigger and bigger.Therefore,studying the current situation of the quality of English teaching in rural junior high schools,identifying potential major problems,analyzing the main causes of problems and proposing effective countermeasures to solve existing problems has become an urgent task.This study takes nine junior high schools in Shan County of Shandong Province as an example to identify the problems affecting the quality of English teaching in urban and rural junior high schools,analyze the main reasons for restricting the quality of English teaching in rural junior middle schools,and try to put forward practical and effective countermeasures to improve the quality of English teaching in rural junior high schools,by conducting paper questionnaires and online questionnaire surveys on a series of questions affecting the quality of English teaching in rural junior high schools,combining the interviews on teachers and students and classroom observation.This study is divided into six parts.Part one:introduction.This paper briefly introduces the background,purpose and significance of this study,sorts out the existing studies on the quality of English teaching in urban and rural junior middle schools in China,defines the core concepts,and points out the methods and theoretical basis used in this study.Part two:research design.The research design was carried out from the aspects of the research process,the selection and description of research sites,the research samples,so as to study the differences in the quality of English teaching between urban and rural junior middle schools.Part three:Analysis of the difference.In order to objectively reflect the real situation of the differences in English teaching quality between urban and rural junior high school,this study analyzes the differences in the conditional quality,process quality and result quality of junior high schools' English teaching in urban and rural areas from three aspects,including teaching conditions,teaching process and teaching results.Part four:analysis of the cause.The differences of the quality of English teaching in junior middle school between urban and rural areas are mainly attributed to the quality of teachers,students and families,school management,which are the main reasons affecting the differences.Part five:countermeasures and suggestions.In view of the differences in English teaching quality between urban and rural junior middle schools,this paper discusses the countermeasures and suggestions for narrowing the differences in English teaching quality between urban and rural junior middle schools from three dimensions:teacher quality,students and family,and school management.
