A Translation Report On The Charter Of Hainan University From Chinese Into English

In recent years,with the internationalization of higher education,there has been an increase in academic cooperation and exchange between Chinese higher learning institutions and their counterparts.A university charter usually serves as"constitution" of universities for the purpose of internal administration as well as effective publicity.It also acts as one of the most important windows for Chinese universities to make themselves known to their counterparts overseas.In addition,it can be used as an important platform for overseas people to know more about Chinese universities.For this reason,a university charter in Chinese needs translating into English in order to promote the internationalization of a Chinese university and its international academic exchange and cooperation with the universities in other parts of the world.This translation report uses the Charter of Hainan University as the source text for translation studies.The charter covers the rules and regulations stipulated in the relevant laws and regulations of the State.It also provides information about the university and stipulates its functions and its sponsor.Besides,it stipulates the rights and obligations of faculty and students,internal administrative system and organizations as well as the University identity.In terms of its content and functions,the charter used as the source text for this translation project can be categorized into a legal text.This translation report consists of five Chapters.Chapter One introduces the translation project and its background.Chapter Two discusses the translation process of the project,including pre-translation preparations and post-translation proofreading.Chapter Three explores the linguistic features of the source text and discusses the difficulties encountered in translation of the source text Chapter Four introduces the relevant theory applied to the translation,analyzes the difficult points in translating the source text and find solutions to the difficult points,which is the key part of this translation report.It mainly analyzes and discusses the difficulties in translation from the lexical and syntactic aspects.In dealing with the difficult points properly,appropriate translation strategies and translation methods are employed so as to achieve good quality of the translated version.Chapter Five is the conclusion,which discusses the experiences and lessons the translator has gained from the translation project.
