| Xu Guansan is a minority of historians in Hong Kong and Taiwan who are engaged in the study of historical theory.He was admitted to the National Northwest University in 1942,graduated in 1946,and arrived in Taipei,China,in early 1949.He moved to Hong Kong at the end of that year.He has been engaged in social activities and theoretical research on history in Hong Kong for decades since then.From 1974 to 1986,he taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and lived in the United States after retirement.Xu Guansan wrote abundant works all his life,involving many fields such as history,sociology,translation,politics and so on,especially history,focusing on the theoretical research of history.From 1958 to 1959,Xu Guansan drew lessons from Western analytical philosophy and Liang Qichao’s "New Historiography" and compiled Historiography and Historiography Method,which was famous for its logical analysis of historical theory.From 1960 to 1970,Xu Guansan traveled to the United States and Britain,and his historiography thought changed dramatically from logical analysis to advocating Chinese traditional historiography.He wrote many ancient historiography theoretical works,such as Liu Zhiji’s History of Practical Records.Liu Zhiji’s Recording History,which specializes in Liu Zhiji’s "Recording Spirit",is an important work in this field.In 1986 and 1988,the first and second volumes of New Historiography 90 were published successively,and the genealogy of New Historiography was constructed from the perspective of school,which is a landmark work of modern history.In the field of historical methods,Xu Guansan devoted all his life to the research and perfection of the "multi-historical network analysis method",until the 1996 "Answer to Great(Live)History" had a final conclusion.The law has undergone three changes,and finally put history in all humanities.It also hopes that these humanities will be used by history,emphasizing the social value andpractical role of history,and will be a valuable method for interdisciplinary research.The study of Xu Guansan is of certain value to the in-depth study of Hong Kong and Taiwan historiography,and to the promotion of the continuous progress of the study of historiography theory and methods. |
