As an important member of the Western Orchestra, the clarinet is loved by its unique sound charm and diverse playing techniques. In its numerous repertoires,Robert Schumann's "Clarinet Fantasias" op.73 is particularly special. This piece is not virtuoso or has a huge band accompaniment, only relying on the sound intertexture of an A clarinet and the piano, which makes countless clarinet players and enthusiasts fall for it.In the undergraduate clarinet syllabus of Indiana University and Kutztown University in the United States,in the Giovanni Punzi Geneva International Music Competition and the 15 th Wind & Chamber Music competition of Central Conservatory of Music, and Portuguese clarinet professor Nuno Pinto's concert in September 2018 and other numerous major classes, concerts and teaching repertoires in Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, the "Clarinet Fantasias" op.73 occupies a very important position. However, there are relatively few studies on the works in China. Most clarinet learners listen to audio or watch videos to get some performance ideas.Through related materials, participating in various clarinet and art festivals, masterclasses and live concerts, and by integrating the author's own experience of learning the clarinet for many years, the author trys to make this classic work as detailed as possible and submit the paper. This article will discuss in three aspects. The first aspect analyzes the structure of the music as an entry point and elaborate on the overall framework. The second covers the life of the composer and the background of the era to describe the style characteristics. The third focuses on the melody, harmony and rhythm of the music to study the targeted performance techniques, and provide more comprehensive theoretical support and practical guidance for the practice and performance of the work.
