In China, students learn English as a foreign language learning which is mainly conducted in classroom settings due to the lack of natural and authentic learning environment. Many educational researchers have started to work on classroom environment and demonstrated that classroom environment has direct or indirect influence on students’ development and performance. Therefore, investigating the relationship between classroom environment factors and the learners’ language learning is of great significance for constructing a favorable classroom environment that is conducive to students’ English learning. In the past few decades, scholars at home and abroad have achieved a lot of great results about the classroom environment, but only a small amount of empirical research have been carried out to investigate the classroom environment in senior high school English class. Therefore, the current study is intended to inquiry Chinese senior high school students’ English classroom environment perception, specifically,to find out the relationship between students’ classroom environment perception and their academic performance so as to know more details of how to enhance students’ English level by improving classroom environment. With this purpose, this thesis selects subjects in the Second Middle School of Longquan for the case study and aims at answering the following questions:(1)What is the overall condition of senior high school students’ perception of English learning classroom environment?(2)Is students’ perception of English classroom environment related to their academic achievements? If yes,how?(3)What are the differences of the relationship between each dimension of students’ classroom environment perception and their’ academic achievements? To answer these questions, the author uses questionnaires to investigate 113 students. Then the data collected is processed with the help of SPSS 20.0.In addition, interviews and classroom observations are used as a supplement to the research results.According to the investigation, major findings are as follows:(1)High school students generally feel satisfied with the classroom environment.Among the nine dimensions of classroom environment, the Leadership dimension gets the highest satisfaction and the Involvement dimension receives the lowest satisfaction.(2)There is a positive correlation between students’ English classroom environment perception and students’ English achievement.(3)By making comparisons between each dimension of classroom environment,it is found that among the nine dimensions of classroom environment, the scale of Involvement is most closely related to students’ academic achievements.Teacher-student Relationship,Task-orientation,Student Responsibility,Equity are all related to students’ academic achievement positively and significantly while there is not significant relation between Student-student Relationship,Leadership,Innovation,Order and Discipline and students’ language proficiency.According to the research results, this study provides pedagogic implications for future study.First, students should be encouraged to participate in classroom actively.Second,a good Teacher-student relationship should be developed.Besides, teachers should treat students equally. Moreover,it is important to make students realize their own responsibility for their study. At last, teachers should strengthen students’ task awareness.
