A Study Of The Compilation And Translation Characteristics Of Tibetan-Chinese Contrast Dictionary

The research object of this paper is the Sino-Tibetan Contrast Dictionary published by Ethnic Publishing House in 1991.Because the dictionary has a large vocabulary and covers a wide range of subjects,it has timely translated all kinds of professional terms and foreign words of the freshmen at that time.It enjoys a certain reputation and status in many Tibetan-Chinese bilingual dictionaries,and has a great impact on the Tibetan-Chinese translation work since the whole new period.It has become the most authoritative reference book for Chinese-Tibetan translation.Therefore,the author makes a comprehensive analysis and study of the compilation and translation characteristics of the dictionary from the perspective of lexicography theory and specialty,and makes an objective evaluation.Chapter Ⅰ is divided into two sections.The first section mainly outlines the emergence and function of "dictionary",its value,the nature of "lexicology",a new subject,and its development at home and abroad.The second section is a review of the publication of bilingual dictionaries of our nation.Through various channels,the author has collected about 200 bilingual dictionaries edited in Tibetan as the main language.These dictionaries are compiled into tables according to their names,publishing years,editors and other information,and the different characteristics of dictionaries in different periods are briefly analyzed and discussed.Chapter Ⅱ mainly studies the macro-structure of the Chinese-Tibetan Contrast Dictionary.The specific contents are divided into three sections.The first section reviews the compilation background and compilers of the dictionary.The second section mainly analyses the problems existing in the preface and appendix of the dictionary and the collection of words.The third section is the macro-structure comparison between the Chinese-Tibetan Contrast Dictionary and its blueprint dictionary.Chapter Ⅲmainly studies the micro-structure of the Chinese-Tibetan Contrast Dictionary,which consists of three parts.The first section introduces the "micro-structure" pointed out by lexicography and the interpretation of relevant professional terms.In the second section,after a careful analysis of the dictionary’s translation of terms,ten "translation methods of terms" are listed.In the third section,through systematic research,the author points out the problems existing in the translation of headlines,and points out eight kinds of defects such as mistranslation and omission through examples and arguments.Chapter Ⅳ is the conclusion.At the end of this chapter,the author makes a summative and objective evaluation of the macro and micro-structure of the Chinese-Tibetan Contrast Dictionary,which is mainly compiled and translated,by using the lexicographic evaluation method,and puts forward four constructive suggestions on the upgrading and revision of the Dictionary with the theoretical knowledge he has acquired.
