With increasing concerns about ecology, ecolinguistics has gradually developed in China as an emerging discipline. This is a translation report on Ecolinguistics: Language,Ecology and the Stories We Live By(Chapter Five and Chapter Eight). This report aims to analyze the problems arising from the process of translating the academic text. Moreover, this report investigates how the author comes up with corresponding translation strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence. The translation of this book is significant because it sheds light on future translation and research on ecolinguistics. This translation report mainly illustrates the translation task from such aspects as introduction of translation task,pre-translation preparation, process description, and case analysis under the guidance of functional equivalence. In the pre-translation stage, the author analyzes the stylistic feature of the text.In order to be fully prepared, the author attempts to establish the term database, refers to the parallel texts, prepares both paper and online dictionaries, and designs a translation schedule. In case analysis stage, the author analyzes some typical examples from lexical, syntactical and textual level, and comes up with corresponding strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence, such as conversion, adding footnotes, division, recombination, omission, and repetition. In the end,the author concludes the limitations of the translation, providing reference for future translations of relevant areas. This report reveals that when translating academic texts, translators need to get familiar with the features of academic writings both in C hinese and in English.Besides, translators are suggested to flexibly adopt such strategies as conversion, division, recombination, omission, etc. In this way, translators are likely to accurately and clearly transmit the writers‘ messages to Chinese readers, thereby reaching functional equivalence.
