Paiziluo Shawm And Percussion Band Research In Wangshou Village

The research object of this paper is the Paiziluo shawm and percussion band in Wangshou village,Xialu district,Huangshi city,Hubei province.It is now composed of 20 members and has six generations of descendants and also has a history of more than 100 years.The band has experienced the changes of the times and the impact of the new culture,while keeping up with the times,it has still maintained the most precious tradition of the Paiziluo music.In this paper,it tries to trace the origin and current distribution of the Paiziluo music by analyzing local historical record and periodical literature.Then to describe the ecological environment,members,commonly used musical instruments,performance patterns and the use of occasions of the band by the field work and oral history resources.It also records the folk rituals and public performances that the band participates in.The paper also compares the music scores of the Paiziluo shawm and percussion band in Wangshou village with the music scores of another two bands in urban and rural areas of Ezhou City,and then analyzes the similarities and differences of the music scores they use and the differences in actual performances.Finally,it analyzes the function of the band in the ritual order it creates,and also clearly explain the characteristics and the reasons for its intermediate existing pattern.Through all the study,the Paiziluo shawm and percussion band in Wangshou village constructed the ritual process order by playing different songs.The difference in the location of the band reflects the spatial order of the ritual as well.At the same time,the band is also used as a symbol of traditional symbols in the ritual to enforce the internal clan sense in the village.The band as an intermediate existing pattern not only retains the historical tradition of more than 100 years,but also continuously cultivates members' ability and makes innovative songs in the process of development,making it to a Paiziluo shawm and percussion band with both tradition and innovation.
